Claudia van Koolwijk, born in 1961, is a graduate of the Düsseldorf Art Academy and a master student of Fritz Schwegler and Alfonso Hüppi. She also studied biology (first state examination). As an artist, she lives and works in Mettmann near Düsseldorf.

Claudia van Koolwijk has always had an instinctive eye for how light itself - available light, natural light at very specific times of day - brings colours to life, opens up spaces, indeed co-creates the moment of photography as an extension of the organic, of growing and witnessing.
